28 day policy for prescriptions
The NHS recognises that a 28-day repeat prescription interval makes the best possible balance between patient convenience, good medical practice and minimal drug wastage.
The British Medical Association notes that “Prescribing intervals should be in line with the medically appropriate needs of the patient, taking into account the need to safeguard NHS resources, patient convenience, and the dangers of excess drugs in the home.”
Moorside Surgery is committed to providing the best possible service to our patients. We shall therefore be making a slow transition from our current 56 days prescribing of medicines to 28 days prescription.
Please read our attached policy

If you are on regular medication, the doctor may provide you with a repeat prescription slip. To request a repeat prescription, this slip can be handed into reception Monday to Friday or posted to the surgery.
A stamped addressed envelope must be attached to your request if you require the prescription to be posted back to you.
The facility to order repeat prescriptions via email is no longer available. This is due to emails not offering the required level of security.
The only method now available for ordering prescriptions online is using SystmOnline (see details below). This system is fully secured and offers a wealth of other facilities.
Many local chemists collect prescriptions from the surgery - please indicate on your request slip if you wish to use this service. Some chemists also deliver, and it is worth discussing this with your local chemist.
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed and remember that telephone requests are not accepted.
Your medication will be reviewed at regular intervals by the doctor, and from time to time you may be asked to make an appointment for this purpose.
Online Services
You can use our online system - SystmOnline to:

To request an account please complete a registration form (DOCX, 20KB) and return it to the reception team with a proof of photo ID. Once you have your accounts details login via: systmonline.tpp-uk.com
